This week, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana partnered with Laborde Earles Injury Lawyers and Alice Boucher Elementary School for the 10th annual Bike It Forward event in Lafayette, creating an unforgettable afternoon for local students and families.
Together, bikes and helmets were donated to students at Alice Boucher Elementary as a celebration of their hard work and dedication throughout the school year.
What began as a community event quickly became something much bigger.
From the excitement on students’ faces to the encouragement shared throughout the day, Bike It Forward served as a reminder of the power of community support, positive reinforcement, and investing in young people.
For many students, receiving a bike means more than simply having something new to ride. It represents confidence, independence, freedom, and the opportunity to experience joy and accomplishment. Celebrating students for their effort and perseverance helps reinforce an important message: their hard work matters, and their community is cheering them on.
At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana, we believe mentorship and positive youth development happen in moments both big and small. Whether through one-to-one mentoring relationships, school partnerships, volunteer support, or community-driven events, every opportunity to encourage a young person can help shape their future in meaningful ways.
Research continues to show that mentorship programs and supportive community involvement can help improve confidence, school engagement, emotional well-being, and future success for youth. Events like Bike It Forward reflect what’s possible when schools, nonprofits, businesses, and community leaders come together with a shared commitment to supporting children.
We are incredibly grateful to Laborde Earles Injury Lawyers for their continued partnership and dedication to making a lasting impact in Acadiana. Their support helped create meaningful memories and rewarding experiences for students who worked hard throughout the school year.
We also want to thank the administration, teachers, and staff at Alice Boucher Elementary School for their partnership and for the incredible work they do every day to support students both inside and outside the classroom.
And finally, thank you to every volunteer, supporter, and community member who helped make this year’s Bike It Forward event such a success.
As we celebrate the 10th year of this event, we are reminded that real community impact is built through consistency, encouragement, and showing young people that they are supported every step of the way.
At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana, our mission remains focused on creating life-changing mentorship relationships and building brighter futures for local youth across Acadiana.
Because when young people feel supported, encouraged, and connected to their community, they thrive.
