High School Bigs Spread Holiday Cheer

This week our High School Big matches at Carencro High School and Live Oak Elementary gathered for a holiday celebration filled with creativity, laughter, and plenty of surprises. Each Little received a unique gift chosen just for them. Before the party they filled out wish lists and while every child received a book and a plush toy from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana, the Bigs went the extra mile and brought additional items their Littles had been hoping for. Watching their faces light up made the moment unforgettable.

The room buzzed with energy as the matches played a variety of Minute to Win It games such as Candy Pong, Ballon Rush, Use Your Noodle, Reindeer Race, and Candy Cane Crush. Each game brought out friendly competition and plenty of giggles.

One of the sweetest moments of the day came during the keepsake craft. The matches created snowman ornaments for the Littles to bring home to their parents. Bigs measured their Little’s height using a piece of string and the Littles decorated a wooden snowman before tying the string around it as a scarf. It created a meaningful keepsake they can look back on to remember how tall they were in third grade.

There was also a small moment that touched everyone. One of our Bigs, Khaymen, was at home sick, but still wanted to be part of the celebration. He FaceTimed in to surprise his Littles and let them know he had not forgotten about them. It was such a sweet and thoughtful gesture. This day was such a great way to wrap up the semester before holiday break!
