Each year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana honors two outstanding matches who truly embody the power of mentorship. These dynamic duos have built friendships rooted in trust, respect, and fun—showing us all what’s possible when a caring adult and an eager young person are brought together through our program.
Big Sister & Little Sister of the Year: Ngozi & Abbie
Ngozi and Abbie have been matched for almost four years, and during that time, their friendship has grown through consistency, encouragement, and shared goals. When they first met, Abbie was a bright and curious 9-year-old. Today, at 13, she continues to impress with her remarkable maturity, grace, and determination.
One of the constants in their time together has been their regular meetings at the local library — a space where they work on homework side by side, set new goals every 100 days, and take on fun, educational activities together. Ngozi also cheers Abbie on in the STEM program and celebrates her strong grades and involvement in her school’s talent program.
They’ve shared big moments — like attending the NFL Saints Draft Boil — but it’s the everyday commitment, encouragement, and laughter that have strengthened their bond. Ngozi is incredibly proud of the young woman Abbie is becoming, especially as she grows in her goal-setting and planning skills.
Abbie is generous, selfless, and a loving big sister to her younger siblings. Together, she and Ngozi have built a strong, positive, and inspiring match that reflects the very best of what we do.
Big Brother & Little Brother of the Year: Josh & Carter
Josh and Carter have been matched since October of 2018 — nearly seven years of friendship built on shared interests like wrestling and monster trucks.
We have had the privilege of watching them grow closer over the years, becoming true friends in every sense of the word. Josh has been patient, kind, and steady — a constant source of encouragement for Carter. Through life’s ups and downs, even when things got chaotic or tough, they’ve remained active with our agency and committed to each other.
Josh truly embodies what it means to be a Big Brother — showing up, offering support, and being a positive, reliable presence. And Carter, you’ve brought energy, trust, and joy to this match, making it something truly special.
