On April 23rd, Littles from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater New Orleans and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana had an unforgettable experience exploring the Louisiana State Capitol.
Our day was packed with memorable moments: we ventured to the top of the Capitol building, toured the House Chamber, viewed committee sessions in action, and even sat in on a few to witness firsthand how our legislators work on behalf of our state.
We were honored to have lunch in the Lieutenant Governor’s apartment and enjoyed thoughtful conversations with State Representative Josh Carlson and Representative Jason Hughes.
Special thanks to State Representative Tehmi Chassion for giving us an insightful tour of the House Chamber, and to State Representative Tony Bacala and State Representative Adrian Fisher for taking the time to speak with our Littles. We also thank Adam with Explore Louisiana for guiding us through the Capitol and sharing its rich history.
Our day concluded on the Senate floor, where Senator Gerald Boudreaux presented a resolution officially recognizing April 23rd as Big Brothers Big Sisters Day at the Louisiana State Capitol — a moment our Littles will never forget.
We are deeply grateful to the Legislators for their hospitality and to our dedicated Board members, Keely and David, for organizing such an enriching and empowering experience.
