Downtown Alive!

  • Downtown Lafayette (map)

DTA! and Festivals Acadiens et Creoles presents Geno Delafose, a native of Eunice, is a zydeco accordionist and singer. He is one of the younger generations of the genre who has created the sound known as the nouveau Zydeco. His sound is deeply rooted in traditional Creole music with strong influences from Cajun music and also country and western. In 1994, he debuted with album French Rockin’ Boogie on Rounder Records. He has been nominated for a Grammy Award in the “Best Zydeco Or Cajun Music Album” category for his Le Cowboy Creole album (2007).

Music will kick off at 6:00 PM with Kevin Naquin & The Ossun Playboys offering a variety of Cajun music which has earned the band a numerous of Cajun music awards.

The first DTA! Happiest Hour premieres at Parc International this Friday with specialty drinks by Pamplona Tapas Bar and a live Cajun Jam featuring the UL Cajun Ensemble with Chad Huval. Harold Bernard of Glide Studios will offer a Cajun dance demonstration during the jam before the music kicks off! The party will continue after DTA! with an “After Party” which will begin at Pamplona Tapa’s Bar.

Downtown Alive! is a family-friendly event, and this season we’re making it even better. This week, DTAkids! will enjoy face-painting, balloon artists, and bungee jumps from Jump Hero Bungee. The fun happens from 5:30 - 7:00 pm at Children’s Museum of Acadiana.

For DTA! patrons with an appetite, select food trucks and vendors will be set up offering a variety of local favorites. DTA! Manger will feature delicious dishes from local favorites including Taco Sisters, Bons Temps Grill, Carpe Diem!, Joy’s and Lagneaux’s.

As a reminder – DTA! is funded through drink sales, so please leave your ice chests at home. Smoking and pets are not allowed to encourage a safe and family-friendly event for all.
