What's better on Father's Day than THE ONE TRUE BARBECUE?

Begining Saturday night and into the early morning of June 19th, author Rien Fertel and photographer Denny Culbert along with a few friends will fire up the Runaway Dish backyard pit and cook a whole hog, low and slow, over wood coals. This 14-hour process is what some consider truest form of barbecue. And if anyone is an expert on the subject, it's Fertel. His recently published book The One True Barbecue: Fire, Smoke, and the Pitmasters Who Cook the Whole Hog is a thorough study in this nearly extinct culinary art form. Fertel and Culbert spent months at a time in North and South Carolina studying, interviewing, and documenting the people and places reign supreme when it comes to whole hog barbecue.

If you want a taste of true Carolina barbecue, come pick up your lunch on Father's Day. We will be slinging chopped 'cue and a couple of sides plus corn bread (with the help of some of our favorite local chefs). And Fertel and Culbert will not only be masters of the meat, but they will be selling and signing books as well. Hang out, have a drink, or grab your box of barbecue and go! It's a leisurely Sunday of meat and smoke and dads and books.
